Daddy Longlegs
Pholcus phalangioides

Daddy Longlegs, Pholcus phalangioidesOne of the most common spiders in and around the house, the daddy longlegs is probably imported from Europe.  They make rather messy looking webs (the web doesn't show in this picture) in cellars and other dark storage spaces.  Although they often create panic, especially when they suddenly show up unexpectedly, daddy longlegs are harmless.

Daddy Longlegs, Pholcus phalangioidesSince the daddy longlegs generally hides in dark spaces, it is unusual to see one out in the sunlight.  This one had just been shaken out of a box where it had spun its tangled web.
